The pool house we designed for Janelle Reiring, one of the founders of the famed art gallery Metro Pictures, is a modern interpretation of a classic Hamptons pergola, rendered with steel windows and doors, horizontal wood batten walls, and a floor of polished concrete. This space is all about ease and comfort, a quiet refuge from sun and rain, unencumbered by gratuitous decorative adornment. Two built-in daybeds sport French mattresses upholstered in a fabric by the legendary decorator John Stefanidis, whose own houses in Greece represent the ne plus ultra of chic, casual summer living.
